Verizon Offers $20 Credit Following Massive Network Outage

Impacted by Wednesday’s massive network outage? Verizon is offering $20 in account credits as compensation. While the carrier did not specify the cause of the 10-hour disruption—which generated over 2 million reports on Downdetector—they have apologized and outlined how customers can claim their refund.

How to Claim Your $20 Credit

Verizon has directed customers to the My Verizon app.

  • Log in to the app.
  • Look for the offer prompt and tap Accept.
  • Verizon states this credit covers the equivalent of "multiple days of service."
  • Watch for a text message from Verizon containing further instructions.

Note: It is not yet clear if the credit will appear on your next immediate bill or a future cycle. Business customers will be contacted directly.

What Happened?

The outage affected wireless voice and data services, leaving phones in "SOS" or "no network" modes, though landlines were unaffected. Verizon urges anyone still experiencing issues to restart their device.

Competitors React

While rival networks AT&T and T-Mobile operated normally, they didn't miss the chance to poke fun at the disruption. "If you’re experiencing issues it’s not us... it’s the other guys," AT&T posted on Instagram. However, competitors aren't immune to similar issues; AT&T paid out $5 per customer following its own outage in 2024.
