AT&T Adds 558K Broadband Users, Driving New Cord-Cutting

AT&T's dual strategy of 5G Internet Air and high-speed Fiber is disrupting the traditional cable market.

AT&T is seeing huge success in its high-speed internet business, driven by a smart, two-part strategy in the third quarter of 2025. The company added a huge number of new customers: 270,000 people signed up for AT&T Internet Air (its wireless 5G home service), and another 288,000 customers chose its premium AT&T Fiber.

This huge jump—totaling over 558,000 new broadband users—shows just how fast Cord Cutting 2.0 is moving. This new phase sees customers actively dropping older cable internet, which is often sold with expensive, long-term contracts, in favor of faster, flexible options.

CEO John Stankey is confident in the approach, noting that AT&T is getting the most profitable customers on both its wireless and fiber networks. "We have the key building blocks in place to give our customers the best connectivity experience in the industry," he said.

The numbers back up this confidence: consumer fiber revenue jumped a solid 16.8% for the quarter, reflecting the premium value people place on fiber's superior reliability and gigabit speeds, which often exceed 1 Gbps.

AT&T is using its Internet Air service to reach apartments and rural areas fast, delivering speeds around 140 Mbps—plenty for streaming and remote work. The service fills a gap in underserved regions where digging up streets for fiber is too costly, helping close the digital divide for over 20 million potential homes.

The Fiber expansion, meanwhile, focuses on growing metro areas like Austin, Texas, and Raleigh, North Carolina, where population booms require scalable infrastructure. The entire strategy emphasizes simplicity and savings, with customers drawn by promotional pricing, such as Internet Air for $55 per month. This strategic focus is keeping AT&T ahead of rivals and accelerating the switch to internet as a simple, high-speed utility.
