Apple Wallet Adds Driver’s License Support for Illinois

Illinois is officially joining the Apple Wallet ecosystem. Starting November 18, 2025, iPhone users in the state can ditch the physical card and add their driver’s license or state ID directly to the Wallet app.

Illinois joins 12 other states and Puerto Rico in supporting the feature.

How to add your ID:

1. Open the Wallet App on your iPhone.
2. Tap the + button.
3. Scan your physical card and complete the Face ID verification steps.

Once added, your digital ID works at select businesses and TSA checkpoints at over 250 airports (including O’Hare and Midway).

Clarifying Apple's Digital IDs

While Apple does not publish a full list of accepting businesses, this expansion follows the recent launch of the strictly passport-based "Digital ID." The two features now coexist in the Wallet app:

Digital ID: Available to anyone in the U.S. with a passport.

Mobile Driver’s License: Available only in select states and Japan.
