Klarna Debuts Unlimited 5G Plan on AT&T: Pricing and Perks

Fintech giant Klarna, best known for its "Buy Now, Pay Later" services, is making a bold and strategic play into the telecommunications sector, announcing the launch of its own unlimited 5G mobile plan in the United States.
Operating as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) on AT&T's robust network, this expansion marks a big step in Klarna's ambition to evolve into a comprehensive neobank and a broader financial lifestyle platform.
The new Klarna mobile plan aims to disrupt the traditional telecom experience by mirroring the simplicity and transparency that defines its payment services.
Priced at $40 per month, customers can expect uncapped, unlimited 5G data, talk, and text across the nation.
Perks of Klarna's new mobile plan
- Unlimited 5G Data, Talk, and Text: No hidden caps or throttling. Users can enjoy true unlimited connectivity at 5G speeds.
- Powered by AT&T's Nationwide Network: Leveraging AT&T's established infrastructure, Klarna promises reliable and widespread coverage across the U.S.
- Seamless In-App Management: True to Klarna's digital-first approach, the entire mobile plan experience, from activation to billing and customer support, is managed directly within the Klarna app. This eliminates the need for phone calls, paperwork, or store visits.
- No Hidden Fees or Long-Term Contracts: Klarna emphasizes transparency, with no activation or cancellation fees. The plan operates on a flexible, month-to-month basis.
- Instant eSIM Activation: Users can port their existing number or get a new one, with instant eSIM activation, allowing for rapid setup and immediate use.
- Strategic Diversification: This is part of Klarna's broader strategy to expand beyond its core BNPL offering, integrating essential daily services into its ecosystem and strengthening its position as a holistic financial platform.
Klarna wants to go one step further
Sebastian Siemiatkowski, co-founder and CEO of Klarna, highlighted the consumer-centric motivation behind the launch. "Klarna has saved consumers time and money, and reduced financial worry for over 20 years. With mobile plans, we're taking that one step further as we continue to build our neobank offering," Siemiatkowski stated.
The U.S. market, with its large existing Klarna user base of over 25 million, is the initial launchpad for this new venture. The company has indicated plans to expand its mobile offering to other key markets, including the UK and Germany, in the coming months.
Research: Americans don’t like switching plans
Klarna's internal research revealed that a significant portion of Americans find switching phone plans cumbersome, a pain point the company aims to resolve with its streamlined, app-based solution.
Klarna's entry into the telecom space is facilitated by a partnership with Gigs, a mobile services startup that provides the underlying platform for MVNOs. This collaboration allows Klarna to offer mobile services without the immense cost and complexity of building its own network infrastructure.
