Recently, Mint Mobile introduced MINTernet, their new 5G home internet service. True to their brand, they use the pay-in-advance model to keep prices low, starting at just $30 per month when you commit to a longer term. This creates a simple, no-contract option for getting reliable internet without the hassle.

Is it Just T-Mobile Internet for Less?

Yes and no. The service runs on T-Mobile’s nationwide 5G network and uses a free T-Mobile internet gateway device. You simply plug it in, and the device converts the cellular signal into Wi-Fi for your home. Setup takes minutes and requires no technician.

The quality of your service rests entirely on the T-Mobile 5G signal at your address. If T-Mobile’s mid-band 5G is strong in your neighborhood, your speeds could feel a lot like cable. If the signal is weak, your speeds will drop.

The Trade-Offs: Price vs. Performance

The main trade-off for the low price is performance during peak hours. Since Mint is an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator), its data traffic is often given lower priority than T-Mobile’s own customers when the network gets crowded.

If you're a competitive online gamer or run a home studio that needs perfect, low-latency performance and high upload speeds, fiber or high-tier cable may still be a better option.

How The Pricing Works

The $30 per month rate is the best deal and is reserved for existing Mint Mobile voice customers who pay for 12 months in advance after an initial three-month promotional period.

If you are a Mint Mobile customer and bundle both phone and home internet, your total bill for both services could be nearly unbeatable compared to the big carriers.
