Smartphone Subscriptions Nearing 7 Billion and Growing

What global smartphone subscription numbers tell us about our world is an understatement. Over the years, the world's appetite for smartphone connectivity has been amazing.

Global smartphone subscriptions (2016-2028)

In 2023, almost seven billion mobile network subscriptions were active across the globe. And according to the statistics, we are set to surge beyond 7.7 billion by 2028.

Driving this connectivity are the giants: China, India, and the United States, with the largest share of these subscription numbers.

While this highlights our reliance on smartphones, the market for the devices themselves is undergoing an interesting shift.

More room to grow

Despite the saturation in some regions, the smartphone still has significant room to grow, particularly in highly populated markets like China and India where penetration remains below 70%.

Interestingly, while global smartphone revenue saw a slight dip from a massive $481 billion in 2021 to an estimated $463 billion in 2022, the market's value is being sustained by the ever-increasing average selling price of these powerful devices.

As of late, the undisputed leaders in the smartphone market are Samsung and Apple. The sheer dominance of these two tech giants is clear, as they together account for approximately half of all smartphone shipments across the globe.

Simply amazing.
