SpaceX Rolls Out New $40 Starlink Plan with 100Mbps Cap
Recently, SpaceX rolled out its most affordable offering yet: a $40-per-month service called Residential 100Mbps.
This new plan dramatically lowers the entry cost for Starlink service in the US, making it a powerful tool for competing with traditional ISPs. The key details, along with how it compares to the existing tiers, are outlined below:
| Starlink Plan | Monthly Cost (US) | Typical Download Speed | Best Suited For | Key Limitation |
| New Residential 100Mbps | $40 | Capped at 100Mbps | 2-3 person households (browsing, HD streaming) | Speed cap |
| Residential Lite | $80 | Close to 250Mbps | Small to medium households | None specified |
| Standard Residential | $120 | 400Mbps or above | Heavy users, large households | None specified |
The Residential 100Mbps plan is "designed as a simpler option for smaller households that don’t require the higher throughput" of the premium services, according to SpaceX.
While the download speed is strictly limited, the plan still offers unlimited data and no restriction on upload speeds.
This move comes as SpaceX has become aggressive in offering various discounts, having recently crossed 2 million active customers in the US.
If the $40 plan becomes widely available, it would help Starlink compete more effectively with other US ISPs, which typically charge around $80 per month.
For now, the Residential 100Mbps plan is only being offered in certain, non-congested parts of the US (e.g., parts of Nebraska).
Existing Starlink subscribers may be able to switch if the option "appears as an available option in their account," but in areas facing network congestion, SpaceX continues to offer only the standard Residential plan.
