T-Mobile Reportedly Offering BYOD Free Line to Select Users

T-Mobile is reportedly bringing back its popular free line perk, but there's a catch: it's only for select loyal customers.

Starting May 8th, T-Mobile will roll out a new free line promotion with key differences from past offers, including stricter eligibility for discounted accounts and a BYOD requirement.

What are the requirements?

According to internal documents shared by The Mobile Report, this free line is only available to customers who meet a specific set of requirements:

  • Account Age: Your account must be at least 5 years old.
  • Free Line Limit: You can’t already have more than one free line on your account.
  • Discount Restrictions: Customers with Hometown Discount, Insider Discount, or Work Perks Discount are not eligible.
  • Recent Changes: You must not have canceled a voice line within the past 90 days.

Notably, a big change from previous free line promotions is the exclusion of customers with the popular Insider Discount, which provides a 20% discount on voice lines.

Unlike some prior deals, this free line is strictly BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) for the entire life of the line, and a $10 Device Connection Charge applies.

How to check if you’re eligible

Starting May 8th, T-Mobile will begin texting eligible customers with details on how to add the free line online or via the T-Life app.

If you want to check your eligibility sooner, contact customer service and ask them to look for a special memo labeled 'Loyalty BYOD May 2025' on your account.

With T-Mobile's new offerings, exploring mobile hotspot options can provide added flexibility.

While this free line offer has more specific requirements than past promotions, it's still a valuable opportunity for eligible long-term customers to add a line at no recurring monthly cost.

Just be sure to factor in the BYOD requirement and the one-time connection fee. If you qualify, this is a solid opportunity to add a line at no monthly cost – just make sure you’re clear on the fine print.
